Racking up almost 500 yards of offense while holding the Haskell Indians to just six yards of offense, the Albany Lions got right back on the winning track last Friday with a 43-0 win in Haskell.

Albany (3-1) will be on the road again this week in Anson to play the Tigers (3-1), who are coming off a big loss to Hamlin, similar to the loss Albany suffered at the hands of the Pipers the week before.

Tickets are available for Friday night’s game only at the Albany superintendent’s office – $5 for adults and $3 for students.

“Anson is very athletic and very fast on defense,” head football coach Denney Faith said. “They have a couple of powerful weapons on offense that we will have to contain.”

The coach said that the two teams not only have similar records, they are also alike in other ways that should make for a very good game.

“We are equal in several ways, so it should be a tough match-up,” the coach said. “We are expecting a real challenge.

Kickoff in Anson is set at 7:30 p.m. this week instead of 7:00 p.m. used for games thus far.

Tickets are $5 each and are available only at the AISD superintendent’s office.

Faith Pleased With Win

The Lions were balanced on offense with 211 yards in the air and 256 yards on the ground, for a total of 467 yards.

“We played well, stayed balanced on offense, and had a tremendous defensive effort,” Faith said. “Allowing them only six yards of offense was really good, but they did have a number of negative yardage plays between bad snaps and us tackling them in their backfield,” he said.

The coach commended Barrett Beal for running the offense well.

“Barrett threw well, and we had a couple of receivers that made good catches,” Faith said. “Jaheim (Newton) ran the ball hard, and our offensive line played well, especially considering we had to fill in some spots due to injuries.”

The coach also recognized a number of defensive players including Taryn Farmer, Wesley Estridge, Parker Henry, Coy Lefevre, and Ryan Mark.

The coach commended Robert Bailey going three for three on PATs while regular place kicker Ryder Wilkins was out with an illness.

Faith said that lineman Rylan Roberson suffered a shoulder injury at the game, and Monte Cauble is also recovering from a similar injury. Luke Ivy has missed two games due to concussion protocol, but may be able to return this week.

NOTE: Times listed below are approximate because the Haskell scoreboard was not operational.
