The three Albany Cubs basketball teams made a clean sweep of games at home on Monday against Cross Plains.

The Cubs will travel to Stamford on Dec. 3 for a set of games starting at 5:30 p.m.

The 8A boys crushed Cross Plains 46-27 on Monday at home.

“Our offense got a big boost from our defense in this game,” coach Ryder Peacock said. “We created a lot of transition points off of our defensive pressure, and we were able to convert those into points.”

The coach commended Caden Price and London Fuentes on offense.

“Being able to score 46 points in a junior high game without full court pressure speaks well of how these guys played,” he said.

Scoring were Price 21, Fuentes 17, Cole Chapman 4, and Andrew Leverton 4.

The 7A boys also won against Cross Plains, 36-5.

“We looked much better with our offense,” Peacock said. “We were aggressive and did a good job of attacking the basket.”

The coach added that the defense created several turnovers due to the pressure they applied and playing well in the passing lanes.

Adam Hill and Houston Heatly were named offensive standouts, along with Cason Fairchild on defense.

Scoring were Hill 16, Heatly 8, Fairchild 3, Lute Wheeler 3, and Lanxton Viertel 6.

The combined B team also picked up a victory, beating Cross Plains 22-9.

“The guys continued to improve this week and looked comfortable within our offense,” the coach said. “We created some turnovers with our defense, and everyone on the team was able to score.”

Scoring for the Cubs were Tyler Waddell 6, Tyler Chapman 4, Jayden Lucas 2, Cole Read 2, Austin Sanchez 6, and Sterlin Hobbs 2.

Cubs Open

Against Haskell

The 7A boys were the lone winners in the season opener held in Albany on Nov. 19. Albany defeated Haskell 18-15.

“For our first game, I thought the guys did a good job competing and getting a win,” Peacock said. “We did a good job on defense in the second quarter and again late in the game.”

Adam Hill was tapped as the offensive standout scoring 12 points. Others scoring were Heatly 2, Bryson Herring 2, and Viertel 2.

The 8A boys played a close game against Haskell, losing 23-19.

“This early in the season it is hard to score in the half court, so we kept trying to push for transition offense,” the coach said. “We had some chances to take the lead late but just couldn’t get a basket when we needed it.”

Scoring were Fuentes 5, Price 8, and Cole Chapman 6. All three were named as offensive standouts.

The Albany B team also lost their opener to Haskell, 18-15.

“We had a rough start and it took us a while to get a basket,” the coach said. “We finally got in the game in the second half, but they had a really tall kid who hurt us on rebounds and put backs.”

Tyler Chapman was named offensive standout with seven points. Also scoring were Waddell,4, Lucas 2, and Read 2.
