Cubs, Lady Cubs split Hawley games

The Cubs and Lady Cubs have been busy the last two weeks playing teams from Cisco and Hawley.

The teams will play Hamlin on Monday, Dec. 7, with the girls on the road in Hamlin, and the boys hosting the Pipers. Games start at 5:30 p.m. at both locations.

Girls Hawley Results

The Red team won in Hawley on Monday, 30-24.

“The Red team got off to a slow start, but we picked it up in the second quarter and never looked back,” coach Jamie Wilson said. “The girls got enough of a lead to hold off a big fourth quarter for Hawley.”

The coach said the team has already shown improvement since the season started.

“Caroline Holson did a great job on offense, and Abi Hale got some great putbacks that helped a ton,” Wilson said.

Scoring for the girls were Holson 11, Hale 8, Kenzie Neve 2, Julia Vega 4, Makenna McNeill 3, and Gabby Lopez 2.

The Albany White team was edged out 26-25 at Hawley.

“We started strong and were only down by four at the half,” coach Dakota Fowler said. “We only scored once in the third, but Caroline Chapman made a very important shot to put us just a point away. We just couldn’t finish, but it was a good game.”

Scoring for the Lady Cubs were Kaisley Bartee 2, Braylee Clark 2, Chapman 12, Mimi Ivy 4, and Avarie Myrick 5.

The girls dropped both games in Cisco on Nov. 23 before the holiday break.

The Red team lost 23-10 to Cisco.

Scoring for Albany were Holson 4, Avery Everitt 2, and Vega 4.

The White team fell in Cisco, 28-10.

“We came out playing great defense, but we got in foul trouble and had to back off a little,” Fowler said.

Scoring in the game were Ivy 4, Clark 2, Chapman 3, and Myrick 1.

Cubs Win 2 of 3

The eighth grade boys lost 33-21 against Hawley on Monday.

“It was a close game in the first half, but we missed too many shots overall,” coach Jimmy Fuentes said. “We did a decent job of moving the ball around but couldn’t score in the high percentage areas.”

Scoring for the Cubs were Ashton Bailey 2, Dalton Richards 2, Branson Beal 12, and Ethan Green 4.

The seventh grade Cubs defeated the visiting Bearcats 41-19.

Scoring were Mason McCloy 9, Brodey Oliver 6, Calhan Fairchild 2, Cade Fairchild 6, Huffman Heatly 16, and Lane Helle 2.

The B team Cubs also won their game against Hawley, 28-9.

Scoring were Ty Richards 14, Andre Gjerpe 4, John Birkla 4, David Mugoya 4, and Max Oliver 2.

The Cubs also played a set of games against Cisco on Nov. 23, winning two out of the three bouts.

The eighth graders won 24-22 against Cisco.

Scoring were Bailey 4, Dalton Richards 5, Jake Hale 2, Hagen Miller 2, and Beal 11.

The seventh graders also won, defeating the visitors 35-18.

Both Cade and Cahlan Fairchild had big games on offense, scoring 14 points each. Also scoring were Heatly with four and Helle with three.”

The coach said Brodey Oliver played a good defensive game.

The B team Cubs lost 27-18 to Cisco.

Ty Richards led the scoring with eight points, followed by Brody Brown 5, Ryan Turner 3, and Birkla 2.
