Both Albany Cub football teams suffered losses in Eastland last Thursday during the second road games of the season.

The Cubs will be out of town again this Thursday (today) for games in Hawley starting at 4:30 p.m. with the seventh graders. The eighth grade will follow at about 5:45 p.m., and the junior varsity will start at about 7:00 p.m.

The eighth grade Cubs were shut out by the Mavericks 18-0.

“We played really well on defense, even though we gave up 18 points,” coach Ryder Peacock said. “We did some good things, and we came up with some big stops at times. For the most part, we never let Eastland move the ball, with their scores coming from one big play and two of our turnovers.”

On the offensive side, the coach said the Cubs had a hard time getting a drive started.

“We made plays to get some momentum, but then we had untimely mistakes that prevented us from ever mounting a scoring drive,” Peacock said.

The seventh grade also dropped to 1-1 for the season with a 24-6 loss in Eastland.

Dalton Richards scored the lone Albany touchdown on a 12-yard run.

“The guys did a lot of good things,” coach David Fairchild said, “but we still have things to work on. I thought they did pretty well for their first game without coaches on the field.”

The coach also commended Ty Richards for an interception and 25-yard return during the game.
