Cross country team runs in district meet Oct. 13

Albany cross country runners got a preview of their district meet when they ran Oct. 6 at the Anson Invitational.

The District 10-2A meet was scheduled for Wednesday on the same course. Results will be reported next week.

“In addition to the course, we saw almost every district team,” Albany coach Tate Thompson said. “We got to see what our kids are going to run against. That gave us an idea of what they need to run and where they need to be to be able to advance.”

The top three teams and the top 10 individuals from the district meet varsity races qualify for the Region II-2A meet, scheduled for Oct. 25 at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie.

Albany runners were expected to face much smaller fields at district with 40 or fewer runners in the varsity races.

“I think that our kids will have a little more confidence,” Thompson said. “They know it’s just our district that they’ll be competing against.”

On Oct. 6, Briley Tabor finished 51st out of 153 runners in the varsity girls race, while Avery Kleiner finished 111th. Tabor ran a time of 15:17 for two miles at Anson Golf Course. Kleiner recorded a time of 17:27.

In the three-mile varsity boys race, Jonathan Coody fin ished 26th out of 75 runners with a time of 20:19.

Albany had two entries in the junior high girls race, which covered 1.5 miles and had 120 runners. Ashlyn Miller finished 28th with a time of 11:16, while Brooke Miller ran 13:54 to finish 92nd.
