Albany’s Haily Cox will get to continue her softball career at the next level after signing a letter of intent with Cisco College in December.

“I love having the chance to keep playing the sport I grew up playing,” Cox said. “It’s a great opportunity for me. Right now, I just hope my senior season goes out with a bang.”

Cox, a senior, batted .357 with eight doubles, a triple and 19 RBIs last year in helping the Lady Lions to the third round of the playoffs. Midway through the season, she took over as the starting catcher and Albany won 11 of its next 13 games.

“Haily’s a very versatile player – she’s played about four different positions for us,” Lady Lions coach Jimmy Fuentes said. “She works hard at everything, and we really can put her anywhere on the field. That versatility has bailed us out of some pretty tough spots.”

Fuentes said Cox’s work ethic makes her deserving of a chance to play in college.

“She’s spent so much time at it,” he said. “You always see her at the field or working on something. When a kid works that hard and puts that much time into it, it’s very satisfying when they achieve something like Haily has.”
