Coody runs at regional

Albany’s Jonathan Coody finished 60th in a field of 111 runners Monday at the Region II-2A cross country meet at Grand Prairie.
Coody, a freshman, covered the course at Lynn Creek Park in 21 minutes, 2.93 seconds. The time was about 47 seconds off what he ran at the District 10-2A meet on Oct. 13, but Albany coach Tate Thompson said the regional course was slightly longer.
“There was a three-mile marker a little ways before the finish line,” Thompson said. “I figured this course would be a little more hilly, more up and down, but it was actually pretty flat for the most part.”
Thompson added that warm, humid conditions were also a factor.
“By the time we started running at 12:30, there was no wind, and it was pretty muggy,” the coach said. “The humidity was pretty bad.”
Thompson said the race was a good learning experience for Coody.
“He had a chance to see the competitiveness of the other runners, especially when I showed him the times of what it’s going to take to get out,” Thompson said. “It was a little overwhelming for him because there was a lot going on. Now that he’s been exposed to that, in years to come it won’t be as much a factor.”
Coody, who finished sixth at the District 10-2A meet, was second among the eight district runners who competed Monday. Hawley’s Nowlen Davis finished 37th in 19:36.52.
