Albany runners will compete in the first cross country meet of the season next Tuesday, Sept. 4 in Eula.

Both the junior high and high school runners will attend the meet, which starts at 4:00 p.m.

Coach Tate Thompson reported a total of 13 junior high runners will participate, along with four high school athletes.

The high school team has been working out since Aug. 1, while the junior high students started on the first day of school, Aug. 16.

“The kids have been showing up and working hard,” the coach said. “They will still probably be a little stressed after the first meet. It is always a shock to run those distances, especially in the heat we have been experiencing.”

Morning workouts will be ending next week, moving instead to the athletic periods.

“We have so many kids in more than one sport, so the high school will work out during last period and after school,” Thompson said. “The junior high will have to run on their own after school. There just isn’t time during the period for them to do much.”
