The Moran Bulldogs won their first football game of the year, defeating Benjamin 58-12.

“We got the year started off right with a win over the Benjamin Mustangs,” said head coach John Hughes. “The guys gave great effort.”

The coach said that his players still have a lot of work to do and need to fix some mental mistakes, but he is pleased with the progress they have made.

“I am proud of the guys and the work that they put in during the week in preparing for the game,” Hughes said. “And thanks go to coach Justin Matthew Hise for all of his help with the guys.”

Leading the Bulldogs in scoring was Jonas Sotelo, who took a pass into the end zone and tallied points on three running touchdowns.

Arren Hawley scored on two pass receptions and also lit up the board with five PATs.

Lyric Huskey took a pass in for a tally, and Colby Dell ran a handoff to find paydirt.

Home Opener

The Bulldogs’ home opener takes place tomorrow against Rising Star. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6 in Bulldog Stadium.

Sixmanfootball.com has picked Moran over the Wildcats in week two of the 2019 season.

“Rising Star missed out on their game last week due to Lohn not having a team,” said Hughes. “They are having the same issue with small numbers that we have, but I know they will be prepared for us.”

Future Schedule

Non-district play will continue with the Dawgs traveling to games in Sidney on Sept. 13 and Rotan on Sept. 20.

Moran is open on both Sept. 27 and Oct. 18.

Homecoming will be on Friday, Oct. 4 with Chillicothe.

Junior High Bulldogs

The first scheduled game for the junior high Bulldogs is at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12, when they host Sidney.
