Bulldogs win all-district spots

Six Moran players earned spots on the All-District 9-1A Division II football team, which was announced Monday.

The Bulldogs had two players named to the first team with four selected at two positions.

Earning first-team spots were Caleb York at wide receiver and Arren Hawley at punter.

The duo also earned second-team honors with Hawley selected as a utility back and York as a safety.

Other Bulldogs on the second team were Ellis Hise at quarterback and safety, Connor Hail at running back and linebacker, Cotten Campbell at defensive line, and Riley Noble at tight end.

Hawley and Hise also received academic all-district recognition.

Boys Basketball

The Moran Bulldogs tipped off their basketball season Friday with a 45-25 loss at home against Woodson.

Ellis Hise led Moran with 10 points, and Connor Hail added six. Caleb York scored four points, with Tyler Waddell getting three and Cotten Campbell two.

The two teams were tied 10-10 at halftime, but Woodson outscored Moran 24-7 in the third quarter.

On Monday, the Bulldogs lost 50-16 at Bryson. Caleb York and Ellis Hise scored five points apiece. Tyler Waddell and Connor Hail each scored three.

The Bulldogs host Three Way at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, in their next game.

Girls Basketball

The Moran Lady Bulldogs posted their first two victories of the season last week before dropping their only game of Thanksgiving week on Monday.

On Tuesday, Nov. 16, the Lady Bulldogs (2-2) defeated Blanket 57-13 on the road, then beat Woodson 39-25 on Friday at home. Moran lost 25-17 at Bryson on Monday.

Against Blanket, Moran jumped out to a 21-4 lead in the first quarter and increased the margin the rest of the way. Johnnie Hise scored 25 points to lead Moran with Hannah Noble adding 17. Emily Murk followed with eight points, Hannah Rogers scored four, Samantha Hinkle two, and Alli Scott one.

Against Woodson, Moran scored eight points in each of the first three quarters to lead 24-15 entering the fourth. Noble was the leading scorer with 17 points, followed by Hise with 11, Rogers with eight and Murk with three.

Against Bryson, the Lady Bulldogs cut a 14-4 halftime deficit to 16-11 in the third quarter, but couldn’t make up any more ground. Noble led Moran with 13 points. Hise scored three, and Murk had one.

The Lady Bulldogs return to action at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at home against Three Way.

Junior High

The Moran Junior High girls basketball team had the week off as classes were let out for Thanksgiving week. Moran returns to action Monday, Nov. 29 at home against Cross Plains.

The junior high boys schedule is still on hold because of low numbers. The Bulldogs could begin playing games after the three-week grade reports come out in early December.
