Bulldogs suffer homecoming loss

The Moran Bulldogs took their lumps Saturday, Sept. 23, with a 51-6 homecoming loss to the Blanket Tigers at Bulldog Field.

The Bulldogs (2-3) visit Rochelle at 7:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29 in their next-to-last nondistrict outing.

Blanket led 12-0 after one quarter before exploding for 39 points in the second. The Tigers led 48-0 before Ethan Boykin scored on a 70-yard pass from Ellis Hise for Moran’s lone touchdown.

Hise was 6 of 10 passing for 135 yards, rushed for 14 yards and had one reception for 6 yards.

Garrett Hamilton caught two passes for 47 yards and was 2 of 3 passing for 7 yards. Cotten Campbell caught four passes for 19 yards.

Caleb York, Campbell and Hise were each in on four tackles defensively. Hamilton and Boykin were each in on three with Landon Moreno getting two and Trey Otwell one.

After Rochelle, Moran will host Vernon Northside on Friday, Oct. 6 before taking its open date.

“We need to stay healthy,” Moran coach John Hughes said. “I’ve got one kid in concussion protocol, so we’re down to seven now. That bye week can’t get here fast enough.”

Junior High

Moran’s junior high team lost 50-0 Thursday, Sept. 21 at Blanket.

The junior high team will play at 5:00 p.m. Friday at Rochelle before the varsity game.

Volleyball

The Moran Lady Bulldogs played their long-awaited home opener Tuesday, Sept. 19 against Rotan before christening their new floor with a win over Trent on Saturday.

Moran hosted Woodson on Tuesday, Sept. 26. Results will be reported next week. The Lady Bulldogs play at 5:00 p.m. Friday at Rochelle.

Against Rotan, Moran lost 17-25, 21-25, 3-25. Moran’s junior high teams also played with the Gold losing 6-25, 15-25 and the Purple losing 13-25, 12-25.

Against Trent, Moran won 25-12, 25-19, 25-12.

The Lady Bulldogs spent the first six weeks of the season on the road as a new gym floor was installed. The team practiced at Albany’s auxiliary gym.

“It was very nice to stay at home for once,” Lady Bulldogs coach Jo Hise said. “It’s been nice to be able to practice on our floor this week. We have more time since we’re at home.”

Cross Country

Moran runners took their first competitive steps of the season Wednesday, Sept. 20 with two athletes running at Merkel.

Jayla Bussell placed  81st in the girls race with a time of 18:48. Ethan Maddox did not finish in the boys race after falling.

Bussell, Maddox, and junior high boys Andy Barron, James Hise, and Christian Rodriguez ran Wednesday, Sept. 27 at Rotan.

District is Oct. 11 at Eula.
