The Moran Bulldogs ran into a buzzsaw Friday, Sept. 29, falling 52-0 at state-ranked Rochelle.

Moran (2-4) plays its final nondistrict game at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6 against Vernon Northside at Bulldog Field.

Against Rochelle, which was ranked No. 8 by sixmanfootball.com and No. 10 by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, the Bulldogs managed 130 total yards.

Ellis Hise was 8 of 13 passing for 63 yards and Garrett Hamilton went 4 of 6 for 20 yards.

Caleb York was the leading receiver with four catches for 48 yards. Cotten Campbell had three receptions for 16 yards, Hamilton had two for 13 yards, and Landon Moreno had two for 6 yards.

The Bulldogs struggled on the ground. Hise gained 56 yards on 10 carries, but Moran finished with 47 net yards.

York led the defense with two tackles. Ethan Boykin, Moreno, Campbell and Hise each had one.

The Moran Lady Bulldogs got in just one match last week as their weekend match was scrapped because of a lack of players.

Moran visited Coleman JV on Tuesday, Oct. 3. Results will be reported next week. The Lady Bulldogs open District 14-1A play at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7 when Strawn visits.

On Tuesday, Sept. 26, Moran lost at home to Woodson 21-25, 16-25, 19-25.

“The girls came together and showed what their potential could be,” coach Jo Hise said. “They worked really hard and played out every point. They worked on making sure every point was a three-hit point.”

In junior high matches, the Gold team lost 12-25, 15-25, and the Purple lost 6-25, 12-25.

“The junior high girls are moving and getting to the ball more,” Hise said.

The junior high will play Saturday, Oct. 14 at the Dublin tournament.
