Bulldogs to play Chillicothe

The varsity Bulldogs lost a close football game last week when they hosted the Strawn JV for a Thursday evening dog fight.

“We lost a close one to the Strawn JV, 38-44,” said Moran head coach Harley Ethridge. “It was a see-saw battle the entire game and came down to the last minute with us on the Strawn three-yard line. On third down we fumbled the ball and the Greyhounds recovered and ran out the clock.”

The junior high Bulldogs also lost to Strawn last Thursday, Sept. 27. The Greyhounds outran the local team 41-0, dropping the Moran middle school season record to 1-2.

This week both of the Moran football teams will travel to Chillicothe for games on Friday, with the junior high taking the field at 5:30 p.m., and the varsity game to follow at 7:30 p.m.

Bouts in Three Way follow on Oct. 11, for the junior high, and on Oct. 12 for the Moran High School team.

Volleyball Games

The junior high Lady Bulldogs hosted Abilene Christian Middle School last Tuesday, Sept. 25. ACMS fields two junior high teams, so the MISD squad split into two teams for the matchup. Both of the Moran teams fell to the visitors.

The Lady Bulldogs brought home their second district win on Saturday, Sept. 29, defeating Woodson in four sets, 15-25, 25-15, 25-17, 25-23.

“We came out playing a little rough, but once we warmed up, we were fine,” said coach Dakota Fowler.

The coach said that two of her players had outstanding games.

“Freshman Johnnie Hise had 10 kills and six blocks in the game,” Fowler said. “She served eight points in a row to finish off the third set for us, and she had the game winning point as well!”

Fowler also praised senior Summer Pederson.

“Summer had eight kills and three blocks out of four sets,” Fowler said. “She also saved six balls for us and served five aces. I was very proud of how all my girls played this game.”

Moran volleyball teams hosted Ranger on Tuesday, Oct. 2, to start the second half of district play. Results were not available at press time.

The varsity volleyball team travels to Strawn for a 10:00 a.m. match on Saturday, Oct. 6, and both MISD volleyball squads head to Newcastle on Tuesday, Oct. 9, for games starting at 5:00 p.m.
