Bulldogs to host Eula

Both junior high basketball teams were able to put a tally or two in the win column this week, though the varsity teams did not fare as well.

The varsity teams were scheduled to play in Baird on Tuesday, Jan. 29. Results were not available at press time.

Upcoming Games

The Eula Pirates and Lady Pirates will be in Moran on Friday, Feb. 1 for games starting at 6:30 p.m.

Moran varsity teams travel to Strawn for the Lady Bulldogs’ last game of the season at 6:00 p.m. followed by the boys match at 7:00 p.m.

High School Games

Results of the Jan. 22 home game with Gordon were not available at press time.

The Bulldogs forfeited their district basketball game with Ranger last Friday, Jan. 25 because not enough of Moran varsity players were available to put a team on the court.

The Lady Bulldogs hosted Gordon on Jan. 22. The visiting Lady Longhorns won the bout 36-57, but the Moran varsity girls played well, according to coach Dakota Fowler.

“My girls did an amazing job,” said Fowler. “The high scorer was Johnnie Hise with 20 points. She made 10 of 16 free throw and also had 14 rebounds.”

Moran lost 30-76 to Ranger at home on Friday, Jan. 25, falling to 0-7 in district.

High scorer for Moran was Summer Pederson with 12 points.

Junior High Boys

The middle school boys participated in the Rising Star tournament on Jan. 24 and 26.

Moran’s boys won their first game on Thursday against the Mullin Bulldogs 16 -13. 

Scoring for Moran were Braxton Ethridge 9, Ellis Hise 3, Caleb York 2, and Toby Eason 2. 

Moran lost the second tournament game 6-27 to Rising Star.

Ethridge had all six points, according to coach Matthew Hise. 

The boys returned Saturday to win third place in the tournament with a 24-16 victory over Ranger. 

Scoring for Moran were Ethridge 16, Eason 4, and York 4.

Moran hosted a district match-up on Monday, Jan. 28, with Eula winnning 32-18.

Scoring for Moran were Ethridge 12, Joshua Lorenzana 2, Memphis McGough 2, and York 2.

Junior High Girls

The junior high Lady Bulldogs also played in the Rising Star tournament.

“We lost our first two games by only three points each,” said coach Fowler. 

The Moran girls won their third game and ended up fifth in the tournament.

Moran lost to Mullin 16-19 and to Rising Star 6-9.

The junior high Lady Bulldogs won their first game of the year by defeating Brownwood 20-12.

The local girls lost Monday’s district bout with Eula 9-36.
