By Kathy Thomson

The Moran Bulldogs lost their final home game to Loraine 54-6 on Friday, Nov. 1 falling to 4-5 on the season and 0-2 in district with one game remaining.

“After seeing the opening kickoff go back for a touchdown, it only got worse for us,” said head coach John Hughes.

Four sacks by Loraine held the ’Dawgs to 34 yards on the ground and 35 yards passing.

Meanwhile, Loraine racked up 117 rushing and 127 in the air. The visitors also intercepted the football twice for 29 yards and a touchdown.

Coach Hughes credited his players with continuing to battle until the end.

The game was called in the third quarter by the rule of 45, ending Moran’s hopes for a spot in the 2019 playoffs.

“We are officially out of the playoffs, but I am proud of the guys for their grit and the determination that they showed,” said Hughes. “We will travel to Trent this week to finish up the season, and we still have a chance to go .500 on the year. That would be a great accomplishment considering we have started four sophomores all year, and we dealt with injuries during the middle part of the season.”

The Bulldogs’ final game is against the Gorillas (0-8, 0-2) in Trent at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8.

Loraine (6-3, 2-0) and Blackwell (9-0, 2-0) face each other this Friday to determine the District 6 1A Division II champion. The loser of that game will advance to post season play as the district runner-up.
