The Moran High School basketball team claimed their second victory of the season last week, and the junior high teams split games in Baird.

Results from the varsity games in Woodson were not available at press time and will be reported next week.

Both the girls and boys high school teams will play in the Zephyr tournament on Dec. 12-14.

Next week the Lady Bulldogs will travel to Newcastle on Tuesday, Dec. 17, while the boys will host Throckmorton on Friday, Dec. 20, before both teams take a break for the holidays.

The Bulldogs defeated Paint Creek on Friday, Dec. 6, to improve to 2-3 on the season.

Moran pulled ahead of the Pirates in the first quarter and added 19 unanswered points in the second to take a 35-5 spread into the locker room. The Bulldogs continued to add to their lead throughout the second half to claim the win by a score of 66-14.

The Lady Bulldogs did not play on Friday. They remain at 1-7.

Both varsity games scheduled in Throckmorton on Tuesday, Dec. 3 were cancelled by the Greyhounds due to scheduling conflicts.

Junior High Games

The junior high Lady Bulldogs were tied 8-8 with the Lady Cubs at halftime. Moran made a run in the third period and then held off a fourth quarter comeback attempt by Baird to win the game 15-12.

“The girls were really happy and nothing but grins from ear to ear,” said athletic director John Hughes. “The guys lost, but they played really hard.”

Moran’s middle school boys trailed the Cubs 8-5 at halftime. Baird scored 15 unanswered points in the third, and remained in the lead 29-11 at the final buzzer.
