Albany News

The junior high Bulldogs recorded the lone win on the basketball court for Moran this week, but compared to last year, when low player numbers coupled with injuries caused both high school teams to end their seasons early, the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs are still playing and improving their skills.

Lady Bulldogs

“My girls are doing an amazing job this year, but we are in a really tough district,” said girls head coach Dakota Fowler. “We have never played basketball together as a team, and some of the girls had not played in three years. They are giving me the best they can, and I really appreciate that.”

The varsity girls lost in Ranger 21-55 on Tuesday, Jan. 8.

They hosted Baird on Friday, Jan. 11, falling to the Bears 21-77.

Top scorers for the Lady Bulldogs were freshman Johnnie Hise 9, and senior Summer Pederson 5.

Junior High Girls

The junior high Lady Bulldogs hosted Ranger on Monday, Jan. 14.

“We lost 9-19, but the first time we played them the score was 4-23,” said Fowler. “This time we only lost by 10 points, and I saw a huge difference in my girls last night, compared to the first time we played Ranger.”

The coach said that Moran was able to prevent Ranger from scoring any points in the fourth quarter.

Eighth grader Emily Murk was the high scorer for Moran with five points.

Last week the junior high teams hosted Gordon, and the girls lost 4-38 to the visitors.

Scoring for Moran were seventh graders Jaylen Ethridge 2, and Paige Crow 2.

“I am very proud of both of my teams,” said coach Fowler. “Keep it up, girls!”

Junior High Boys

The junior high Bulldogs lost to Gordon 19-37 on Thursday, Jan. 10.

Scoring for Moran were Braxton Ethridge 13, Ellis Hise 2, Joshua Lorenzana 2, and Memphis McGough 2.

The local boys hosted Ranger on Monday, Jan. 14 and posted a 30-21 victory in front of the home fans, to improve to 5-4 for the season.

“I am very proud of these young men,” said coach Matthew Hise. “They played hard and worked the ball well.”

Scoring for Moran were Ethridge 23, Caleb York 4, and Lorenzana 3.

Bulldogs

The varsity team lost 38-63 to Baird on Friday, Jan. 11.
