Due to the football playoffs, the Lion basketball team will be working short-handed for the time being, opening the season with the JV team at the Woodson Tournament Nov. 22-23.

The boys were scheduled to open the season against Bangs next Tuesday, but Bangs cancelled the game, according to head boys basketball coach Ryder Peacock.

“We have several guys who have been playing in off-season, and we may get a few JV football players who want to make the switch now to basketball rather than waiting for the football playoffs to conclude,” the coach said. “We will be playing the varsity schedule but with mostly JV players until football is over.”

For several years, the varsity boys basketball season has been delayed due to the extended football season.

The boys are also schedule to play Hamlin on Nov. 26; however, both schools are anticipated to still be involved in the playoffs and likely will only play a JV game.
