The final week of Albany Junior/Senior High’s summer conditioning program for boys begins Monday, July 17, while the girls program resumes following a two-week break.

The final session for the boys program will be Thursday, July 20, while the girls program wraps up Thursday, July 27.

Football coach Denney Faith said participation in the boys workouts remained strong despite an expected dip last week with the Fourth of July holiday.

“We had a lot of people gone on vacation, but we still had good numbers showing up,” Faith said. “We had a good turnout Monday with guys back in town.”

Boys sessions are scheduled for 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. each day and include weight lifting, agility drills and conditioning. Skill workouts are held at 5:00 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Faith said there may be some adjustments to next week’s schedule with members of the coaching staff attending the THSCA convention and coaching school Sunday-Tuesday, July 16-18 in Houston.

Girls sessions are 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Monday through Thursday. Sport-specific instruction is 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Mondays for high school athletes and Tuesdays for junior high athletes.

Volleyball coach M.J. Reneau said the sport-specific workouts will be changed the final week of the program because the gym will be closed as work is done on the gym floor.

On Friday-Saturday, July 21-22, high school volleyball players will compete in a tournament at AYSA in Abilene

“We’ll have two teams, a varsity and a JV, with 19 girls,” Reneau said.

Summer workouts are subject to UIL regulations.

Preseason practice for high school football and volleyball will begin Monday, July 31. Junior high sports cannot hold practice until school starts.
