Local male athletes entering grades 7-12 have the chance to take part in  summer conditioning and sport specific training next week, while the girls’ program will continue on break until July 19.

The girls’ conditioning and sport specific training is on a two-week break but will pick up again on July 19 for two final weeks prior to volleyball two-a-days.

The boys worked out this week and will continue through July 22.

“We did skip a sports specific workout on July 5 due to the holiday,” coach Denney Faith said. “We will continue for two more weeks.”

Participation on the boys side has continued to hover around 40-45 boys in grades 7-12 for the morning conditioning sessions, with about 40 coming to the football specific sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m.

Boys are scheduled for conditioning workouts from 7:00 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. on Monday through Thursdays.

The girls finished sport specific sessions for basketball skills in June, but volleyball sessions are expected to continue.

When the girls resume workouts, conditioning will start at 9:00 a.m., followed by volleyball sport specific training on Mondays and Tuesdays beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The Lady Lions team volleyball team camp, which is limited to girls in grades 9-12 who plan on playing volleyball in the fall, has been set for July 26-29 at the high school.

Players should be receiving a letter in the next week about summer two-a-days and participation and consent forms that must be signed by a parent. For more information about the necessary forms, contact one of the coaches.

The forms for grades 9-12 have to be returned on the first day of two-a-days on Monday, Aug. 2. Documentation for junior high students is not due until the first day of class on Aug. 18.

Any students who did not have a physical exam conducted at the school during the final couple of weeks of the school in May will have to obtain an exam at their own expense.

The local clinics should have the required exam forms to complete, but a form can also be obtained in the high school/junior high office.
