The Albany Athletic Booster Club met July 1 to elect new officers and begin making plans for the annual Hamburger Supper and other fall events.

Officers elected at the meeting are Shawnee Tischler – president, Stephen Kayga – vice president, and Tisha Wilkins – secretary. The position of treasurer will be announced later.

Logan Neve will head up the “Tunnel Crew” again this year. Volunteers are always needed to help hold the inflatable “A,” as well as with the horn and flags.

Volunteers are also needed to serve as team parents.

Booster Club secretary Tisha Wilkins said the Booster Club needs lots of people to help out.

“It is important that at least one team parent from each sport attends Booster Club meetings to stay informed and up to date about activities,” Wilkins said.

Hamburger Supper

The 2020 Hamburger and Ice Cream Supper will be held on Monday, Aug. 10.

The event is tentatively set to take place at the Albany Bank Park at 6:00 p.m.

The Booster Club will meet on Monday, July 20 to confirm details and the Hamburger Supper location.

High school athletes and coaches eat for free, and the general public is invited to eat for only $7 a meal.

Cheerleaders will provide dessert and homemade ice cream.

The Albany Lion varsity and JV football teams, Albany cheerleaders, Lady Lion volleyball players, and both of the cross country teams will be introduced at the event.

Girls who attend the upcoming cheerleading camp will perform a variety of cheers and dance routines at the supper.

Football shirts and Albany Lion gear will be available for purchase as well.

All fans of local student athletes are encouraged to join the Booster Club.

The organization is not just for varsity football players’ parents, according to Wilkins. Fans of all sports, both boys and girls, are invited to join and help support the Albany teams.

Wilkins will post a “sign-up genius” on the Booster Clubs Facebook page for volunteers to help with grocery store runs, setting tables up, cooking burgers, and selling tickets.

Football Program Ads

Wilkins said the athletic program ad sales have begun, which is the Booster Club’s biggest fundraiser of the year.

Businesses and individuals that would like to purchase an ad can contact Wilkins at 325-660-7443.

Ad sales and sizes are the same as last year.

Business card size is $30, quarter page ad is $60, half page is $120, and a full page is $250.

Ads in the program can be for any athlete, cheerleader, student, or business.

The deadline to purchase an ad in the magazine-type 2020 football program is Friday, July 31.

The program is sold at all varsity football games in Robert Nail Stadium.

The first home game of the 2020 season will be played against Colorado City on Friday, Aug. 28. Other home games are Dublin Sept. 4, Hamlin Sept. 11, Meridian Oct. 9, Ranger Oct. 23, and Cross Plains Nov. 6.

The program ad sales with proceeds from the Hamburger Supper and the concession stand are the main ways the Athletic Booster Club raises money to support local athletes.

“Regardless of events changing that are out of our control, the program will be printed,” Wilkins said. “All funds raised from ad sales goes to support all Albany athletes and cheerleaders throughout the year, and the money helps coaches with items that do not fit into their budgets.”
