The Lady Lion basketball team will open the season when Albany hosts a couple of other area teams for scrimages on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1:00 p.m.

Both varsity and JV games are listed on the schedule in the next couple of weeks, but whether those are all played depends on the success of the volleyball team in the playoffs.

“Originally, we had three teams coming this Saturday but as of this morning, Millsap has backed out on us, and Baird might have to as well,” said head girls basketball coach Tate Thompson. “If that is the case, then it will just be us and Throckmorton.”

Thompson said that there is currently a “mixture” of JV and varsity girls working out.

“There are about 10 right now, but even when volleyball is done, we will have very low numbers,” he said.

The regular season varsity opener against Newcastle is set for Saturday, Nov. 16. The JV girls will actually open a few days before that on Nov. 12 in Graham.

The schedule will be adjusted as needed, Thompson said.
