The girls portion of Albany Junior/Senior High’s summer conditioning program concluded this week and will resume Monday, July 17 following a two-week break.

The program is open to all incoming seventh through 12th graders who plan to participate in interscholastic sports.

Albany volleyball coach M.J. Reneau, who oversees the girls program, said Lady Lions and Lady Cubs athletes are welcome to continue working out on their own during the hiatus.

“The girls can just continue with the workouts we’ve been doing,” she said. “The weight room should be unlocked. They just need to make sure they’re being safe and have a partner to spot.”

When the girls program resumes, sessions will be 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Monday through Thursday. Sport-specific instruction will be held 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Mondays for high school athletes and Tuesdays for junior high athletes.

The girls program will conclude Thursday, July 27. Before that, members of the high school volleyball program will participate in a tournament Friday-Saturday, July 21-22, at AYSA in Abilene.

Meanwhile, boys sessions will continue Monday through Thursday each week through July 20, including July 4. Workouts are from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. each day and include weight lifting, agility drills, and conditioning. Skill workouts are held at 5:00 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

Summer workouts are subject to UIL regulations.

Preseason practice for high school football and volleyball will begin Monday, July 31. Junior high sports cannot hold practice until school starts.
