Annual hamburger supper slated Aug. 13

The Albany Athletic Booster Club will meet at the high school library on Monday, July 30, at 6:00 p.m. and everyone interested in joining the organization is encouraged to attend.

Items on the agenda include turning in ads for the football program, planning the Ice Cream Supper, and discussing team parents.

Ice Cream Supper

The Booster Club will host the annual Ice Cream Supper on Monday, Aug. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bank Park.

The hamburger meal costs $7 for the general public and everyone is encouraged to attend, enjoy a picnic meal, meet the athletes and coaches, sign up to join the Booster Club, and get pepped up for the coming year of school sports activities.

“We will start serving the food at about 7:00 p.m., and the program will start at 7:30 p.m.,” said club president Mindy Ary. “The meal is free for high school athletes and coaches.”

Homemade ice cream will be provided by the cheerleaders.

The Albany Lion varsity and JV football teams, cheerleaders, mascot, Lady Lion volleyball players, and cross country teams will be introduced at the event.

The young girls who attend next week’s cheerleading camp will perform a variety of cheers and dance routines.

“T-shirts and other merchandise will be sold, as well as the athletes’ T-shirts for $5, and the varsity A’s, also $5,” said Ary.

Booster Activities

Fans of all Albany school sports are encouraged to join the Athletic Booster Club.

In addition to the Ice Cream Supper, the club sponsors other activities, including decorating the locker rooms, lockers, and team buses, supporting the teams, and hosting the sports banquet in May.

Booster Club members sell souvenir items, such as T-shirts, caps, water bottles, umbrellas, stadium seats, flip flops, and other products from the “Spirit Shop” at the annual Ice Cream Supper and at all of the home football games.

Team Parents

“We still need team parents for several of the sports,” said Ary. “We want to have parents for all the sports teams, both high school and junior high. Anyone interested in signing up can come to the meeting or contact me.”

Ary can be reached at 325-762-2447, ext. 112, or by email at mindyary@resourcecare.org

“I want to communicate the importance of parental involvement,” said Booster Club vice-president Stephen Kayga. “It’s my understanding that some parents don’t join the Booster Club because they think that it aims toward football and/or varsity boys sports only, or high school specifically. This, in fact, is NOT true.”

The entire athletics program benefits from the Booster Club including seventh and eighth grade boys and girls, their coaches and athletes, according to Kayga.

The Booster Club officers for this year are Mindy Ary – president, Stephen Kayga – vice president, Tisha Wilkins – secretary, and Shawnee Tischler – treasurer.
