Albany News

Albany’s Briley Tabor and Kiana Roberson were named to the All-District 10-2A girls basketball team after a vote by district coaches.

Both were first-team selections. Tabor, a three year starter, was the lone senior on the Albany roster. Roberson, a junior, repeated after earning second-team honors last year.

“This a very honorable accomplishment considering the high level of competitiveness that our district possesses,” Lady Lions coach Tate Thompson said. “The district coaches vote on this. Not only is this award given for how good these players perform but also the integrity and character that they show while competing. I’m very proud of these young ladies in accomplishing this.”

Tabor and Roberson were also among 11 Lady Lions to earn academic all-district. The others were Braylyn Abbate, Callan Edgar, Avery Everitt, Caroline Holson, Kaisley Bartee, Caroline Chapman, Mimi Ivy, Alli McDaniel, and Madison Parrott.

“This is given to the student-athletes who maintain a 90 or above average in their core classes during the third and fourth six weeks, which can be hard to do in the midst of being so busy during this time of year,” Thompson said.

Albany finished 8-19 overall and 1-11 in district.

Stamford and Cisco shared the district title with the Lady Bulldogs winning a seeding game.

Stamford made the deepest playoff run, reaching the regional quarterfinals before losing to Nocona. The Lady Bulldogs beat Petrolia and Frost in the first two rounds.

Cisco beat Seymour in the first round and lost to eventual regional champion Lipan in area.

Third seed Anson lost to Windthorst in bi-district, while fourth seed Haskell was knocked out by Nocona in the first round.
