Albany tracksters to be in Eastland

Albany tracksters competed against mostly larger schools, along with windy West Texas conditions last Saturday at the Pied Piper Relays in Hamlin.

The local track teams will be on the road to Eastland on Thursday (today) for the next meet, then head back to Breckenridge on March 25 in preparation for the district meet in Albany on March 31.

The Albany boys placed in all three relays in Hamlin over the weekend, while the girls finished sixth in the 800 meter relay.

“We are still working on putting our mile relay together,” girls coach Dakota Fowler said. “The girls have started strong this season and are coming ready to work hard at practice.”

The girls sprint relay finished just out of the money in seventh, while the mile relay was eighth.

Senior Alli Hill qualified for the finals in the 300 meter hurdles with a fifth place finish in the prelims, but opted to save her legs for the relay finals.

Boys coach Rod Britting was mostly pleased with the performances from his team at the meet.

“We had a pretty good day at the meet, especially considering how windy it was,” Britting said. “It was hard to gauge times compared to previous weeks because of the wind, but we did some good work against mostly bigger teams.”
