Albany to host track meet Thursday

The girls track team finished as the fourth place team at the Eastland track meet last week, while the varsity boys placed sixth out of eight teams present.

The JV boys had the best team total of the day for Albany, placing third overall with 83 points.

The girls garnered 61 points and the varsity boys scored a total of 36 points.

Albany will host a meet Thursday (today) starting at 3:00 p.m. with field events. Running events will follow at about 5:30 p.m.

The school will also host the District 8-2A meet next Thursday, which includes teams from Cross Plains, Haskell, Hawley, Roscoe, and Stamford, along with Albany.

Both coaches reported that times and distances improved at the Eastland meet.

“Overall, I was fairly pleased with our meet performance,” girls coach Lauren Peacock said. “I was pretty disappointed after the Hamlin meet during spring break. I told the girls it was time to get serious, and several of them performed well at Eastland despite the weather conditions.”

Boys’ coach Rod Britting said that he is hoping to have all his runners and jumpers who suffered injuries back in time for the district meet.

“We are still in the process of getting people well,” he said “Hopefully by district everyone will be healthy so we can compete at the level we had hoped we could at the beginning of the season.”

Britting said that most of the athletes in jumping events placed well at Eastland.

He also commended the JV team for placing well at the meet.
