Albany will host the first two rounds of the Major League District 5 baseball tournament on Saturday, May 29 and Monday, May 31.

Local league president Paul Hamilton said the tournament is being held at multiple host sites.

“Some of the smaller towns, like Albany and Jim Ned, are hosting the first few rounds of the tournament,” said Hamilton. “After that, all games will be played in Abilene or in Wylie.”

Two games will be played in Albany on Saturday with the first game set to start at 9:00 a.m. followed by the second game at 11:00 a.m.

Monday’s games will start with the first one at 6:00 p.m. and the second one at 8:00 p.m. in Albany.

Both the Albany Raiders and Albany Reds will be playing in these first two rounds.

This is the third year that Albany has hosted one of the District 5 tournaments. In previous years, both league officials and participants have been very pleased with the setup and local fields.

“We are excited to get to play a full season this year,” said Hamilton. “Last season was delayed and then cut short due to COVID, so we are looking forward to getting out and playing games in town and in the area.”
