Albany to host JV baseball tourney

The Albany Lions baseball program will host its Albany JV Tournament Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 22-24 in the first action of the season.

Teams from eight schools will play 12 games starting at 9:00 a.m. each day.

The Albany junior varsity will take on Eastland at 2:00p.m. Thursday (today), then face Coleman at 10:40 a.m. Friday and Hawley at 10:40a.m.Saturday.Other schools are Breckenridge, Cisco. Early,and Stamford.

Lions baseball coach David Fairchild said the tournament will likely be the only JV outings of the season for Albany, which will have 10 players available for the weekend.

“We’ll need four or five of those guys to help us out on varsity,” Fairchild said.

The start of the varsity seasonwillcomeThursday-Friday, Feb. 29-March 1, at the Hawley/Anson Woody Tourney, depending on Albany’s participation in the boys basketball playoffs.

Should sufficient players be available, the Lions varsity will open against Early at 10:00 a.m. Feb. 29 at Hawley. On March 1, Albany is scheduled to play Comanche at 10:00 a.m. at Stamford and Eastland at 6:00 p.m. at Anson.
