A total of 10 Albany players were named to the District 6-2A volleyball teams, splitting All-District honors with the Hawley Lady Bearcats.

Albany and Hawley were the only 2A schools in District 6, which also included five 1A teams that advanced into a separate bracket of the playoffs.

Sophomore Alli Hill was named the district’s Defensive MVP, while the Lady Bearcats took the other four superlative honors.

“Although Hawley took four of the five superlatives, Albany players were recognized in exactly half of the spots available on the first and second teams,” coach Kimberly Hill said.

In fact, the Lady Lions garnered four of the seven first team selections and three from the second team.

Juniors Taylor Scott and Mady Connally were picked for the first team, along with sophomore Torie Fuentes and freshman Ansleigh Garcia.

Named to the second team were sophomores Hannah Trail and Blanton Belcher, as well as freshman Clara Holson.

Receiving honorable mention  for the Lady -Lions were sophomore Addie Beth Denton and freshman Ana Balliew.

“For as young as we were this year, both in age and experience, I’m pleased with the outcome,” Hill said. “I feel our team was well-represented with the selections.”

The Lady Lions ended the season tied for third overall, but advanced in the runner-up position in the 2A bracket of the playoffs. Albany lost in three sets to Miles in the area round of the playoffs after a bye at bi-district.

Receiving the other overall or superlative honors were Hawley players, including MVP Hannah Rule,  Offensive MVP Vanalice Bailey, Outstanding setter Brieanna Leathers, and Newcomer of the Year K’Lynn O’Shields.
