The Lady Lion softball team were unable to avenge their first round loss to Eula when they hosted the Lady Pirates on Tuesday, posting a 7-1 loss.

Details of the game will reported next week.

The softball team also played a game against Cross Plains on Wednesday after the game was postponed from last Friday due to rain. Results of that game were not available but will also be reported next week.

The final regular game of the season is set for Friday, with the Lady Lions hosting the Cisco Lady Loboes starting at 5:00 p.m.

The Lady Lions are still in the hunt for the district championship with Albany, Cisco, and Eula all battling at the top.

Albany and Cisco are assured of advancing into the 2A playoffs as the only 2A school in District 8-2A. The remainder of the schools in the hybrid district will advance into the 1A playoff bracket.

The Lady Lions will play a bi-district game at the end of next week during an April 29 - May 1 window.

No information was available if Albany will play a practice game early next week in preparation for the playoffs.

Albany recorded a 19-0 win in Baird on April 13.

“In all fairness, Baird was playing short-handed due to conflicts with the area track meet,” coach Jimmy Fuentes said. “I commend their kids for giving us the best game they could, as well as our girls for not using the situation to not play well.”

The coach said that he is looking forward to the challenging end to the season to determine the district championship.

Ana Balliew opened on the mound, allowing one hit with no runs. She struck out two batters.

Sara Smith and Isabel Alvarez both were called up for the next two frames of the three-inning game. Neither allowed a hit or run, while both had one strikeout.
