The Lady Lions dropped both district games on the road last week, with the second half of the district race starting on Friday in Haskell.

The varsity was open on Tuesday with a scheduled district bye.

Action resumes Friday with the Lady Lions hosting Hawley. The varsity will play at 6:00 p.m. in the new gym, while the JV will play at 7:15 p.m. in the old gym.

Albany will travel to Hamlin on Tuesday, Jan. 26 with the JV starting the four back-to-back games at 4:00 p.m. The varsity girls should play at 6:30 p.m.

Varsity Details

The varsity girls lost at Stamford, 52-28, on Jan. 12.

“Despite what the score showed, I never really felt like the game was out of reach,” coach Tate Thompson said. “This is the hardest we’ve played and with the most desire in awhile. I was very pleased with the girls’ effort, but we just missed a few shots early.”

Avery Kleiner was named the offensive standout, while Elia Hebel was tapped for defense.

Albany 6 11 7 4 - 28

Stamford 17 13 9 13 - 52

Scoring for Albany were Alli Hill 5, Briley Tabor 4, Avery Kleiner 9, Traci Isbell 2, Lizzie Chavez 2, and Elia Hebel 6.

The Lady Lions opened the second round of district with an 85-22 loss in Haskell last Friday.

“Haskell has a very talented team,” the coach said. “We did a good job of handling their press early on, but it eventually just wore us down. I am very happy with where the girls are for the second half of district.”

Haskell 20 23 23 19 - 85

Individual scoring was not available.

JV Results

The JV girls played just one game in Stamford last week, losing 34-28.

“We had a slow start against a tough Stamford team,” coach Jamie Wilson said. “We got ourselves in a hole in the first half, but came back ready to fight in the second half.”

The coach commended the team for doing a “fantastic job of working together.”
