The Albany boys basketball program was represented well, taking nine spots in the District 10-2A All-District selections announced this week.

Albany senior Barrett Beal was named Offensive MVP by the district’s coaches, while freshman Adam Hill took another of the superlatives with 6th Man of the Year.

“Overall, I thought we were well-represented,” coach Ryder Peacock said. “It was good to see Barrett recognized as the Offensive MVP because he was such a threat in so many different ways offensively. It wasn’t just his ability to score, but also his ability to create shots for others that made him so tough to defend.”

The coach also praised Hill for his efforts during the season.

“Adam became a force for us off the bench and deserved being recognized as the 6th Man of the Year,” the coach said. “Having him come off the bench and provide a change of pace for us on the offensive end created problems for our opponents.”

Sophomores Cole Chapman and Coy Lefevre both received first team positions.

“Cole and Coy both had strong seasons for us,” Peacock said. “Cole started strong for us and started drawing a lot of attention around the basket to help take the pressure off our shooters. Coy was already a threat from the outside, but over the course of the season he became just as strong inside, making him a tough match-up for other teams.”

Sophomore London Fuentes and junior Luke Ivy were both picked for second team honors.

“London was a lot of fun to watch this season, making things happen for us offensively with both shooting and passing,” the coach said. “Luke took on the role of guarding each team’s primary scoring threat and did a great job stepping into that role this season.”

Senior Everett McWhorter, junior Cooper Fairchild, and sophomore Caden Price each received honorable mention.

“Everett, Cooper. and Caden gave us big minutes at different times,” he said. “Everett especially provided a big lift late in the season.”

The Lions ended the regular season with a 9-3 district record for second place, beating Petrolia at the buzzer for the bi-district title. The Lions lost in the second round to Lipan.

Lipan eliminated Cisco, the last 10-2A playoff team, in the regional final, and advanced to the state semifinal.

“It was really nice to see our guys honored this way,” Peacock said. “The guys played really well, especially in the second part of the season with losses only to Cisco and Lipan,” the coach said.

Three Albany High School players were also honored with Academic All-District with a 90 or above average, including Cole Chapman, Luke Ivy, and Adam Hill.
