The seventh and eighth grade track teams opened the season at a Clyde track meet on Friday, March 1, placing in a number of events.

The Cubs and Lady Cubs also competed on Tuesday, March 5 at a meet in Breckenridge, but results were not available at press time.

Ryder Peacock is coaching both junior high boys teams.

“Against a tough field of seventh grade athletes, we finished very well, being in the top six in just about every event we competed in,” said Peacock.

The coach was pleased with the boys’ efforts, especially considered their limited practice time so far.

“The eighth grade boys have improved tremendously since last year, and several of these guys ran personal bests and dropped a lot of time from last season,” he said.

On the girls’ side, Ginger Norton and Kimberly Hill are splitting the coaching duties, with Norton in charge of the eighth graders and Hill the seventh grade athletes.

“I thought this was a good first meet,” said Hill. “It definitely gave me a look at our strengths and weaknesses, and which girls have that drive and competitive edge.”

Hill said that results for the junior high girls competing at Clyde were incomplete at press time, so some of the athletes who placed may not be listed below.
