AHS tennis teams to compete at district tourney

Several Albany High School tennis players performed well in the Seymour Invitational Tournament last week, returning home with two consolation championships in the boys division and the top two spots in girls singles.

“Wind was a huge factor on day one,” said coach Sara Wilson. “It was impossible to make adjustments.”

The district tournament will start Friday, April 9 at Rose Park in Abilene, with the semifinals and finals set for Monday, April 12.

Results from the Seymour tournament are as follows:

Girls Singles

Sarah Cotter defeated Parr of Archer City 8-0, defeated Seymour #1 8-0, defeated Russell of Albany 8-0 for the championship.

Sidney Russell defeated Archer City #2 8-3, defeated Rule of Hawley 8-6, lost to Cotter 8-0 for second place.

Chelsy Parsons lost to Quanah #2 8-0, lost to Seymour #2 8-1.

Girls Doubles

Susie Cormack and Ella Webb defeated Seymour #2 8-0, defeated Hawley 8-3, lost to Quanah #1, defeated Leech/Trail of Albany 8-3 for third place.

Leddie Leech and Robyn Trail defeated Electra #2 8-3, lost to Archer City #1, lost to Cormack/Webb of Albany.

Boys Singles

Brayden Watson defeated Wiggins of Electra 6-1, defeated Wood of Quanah 6-2, lost to Curry of Archer City in the semifinals 6-2, lost to Vizcain of Quanah 6-2 for fourth place.

Boys Doubles

Luke Ivy and Cooper Fair­child lost to Quanah #1 6-3, defeated Electra #1 6-1, defeated Seymour #1 6-2 for consolation.

Mixed Doubles

Mikey Hernandez and Jaci Chapman lost to Barrett/Clark of Archer City 6-3, defeated Beck/Halley 6-3, defeated Quanah 7-5, defeated Perry/Newton of Hawley 6-3 for consolation.

Keatin Russell and Chloe Daughtery lost to Archer City 6-1, defeated Petrolia 6-2, lost to Hawley 6-3.
