Weather continues to be an issue for the Albany golf program, which scrapped a planned outing over spring break and has had the boys division of the Trent tournament pushed back to Thursday, March 23 (today).

The girls division of the tournament was played Wednesday, March 22 at Shady Oaks Golf Club with Myleigh Leveridge representing Albany. Results will be reported next week.

Albany’s final outing before district will come Monday, March 27 (boys) and Wednesday, March 29 (girls) at Haskell.

The District 10-2A tournament will start Monday April 3 at Shady Oaks and conclude the next day at Sweetwater Country Club.

While things haven’t gone exactly to plan, Lions golf coach Tate Thompson said there has been some good news.

“We’re getting our No. 1 golfer from last year back in Lute Wheeler,” Thompson said. “Lute’s playing well. I took him out to play a couple of qualifying rounds just to get some numbers on paper for district, and he’s hitting the ball really well.”

Thompson said Wheeler’s availability makes the competition for a lineup spot that much tougher.

“These guys are competing for spots, and I think it’s really going to help our team score,” the coach said. “We’re getting qualifying rounds and tournament rounds to get some averages to see who’s going to be on the team and as individuals at district. We’re just going to leave it up to the numbers and go with the top five.”
