The Lion basketball teams finally were able to get on the court last weekend, with the JV beating the visiting Ballinger Bearcats while the varsity came up short.

The boys teams were open on Tuesday but will be in action again in Roby on Friday. The JV boys will follow the JV girls at 5:00 p.m., with the varsity boys taking the court at about 7:30 p.m.

The Lions will be on the road Saturday, traveling to Perrin-Whitt, starting at 2:00 p.m. with the JV. The varsity will follow at about 3:15 p.m.

The Lions will also travel next Tuesday, Dec. 15 to Coleman for a pair of games starting at 4:00 p.m.

The varsity lost to Ballinger on Saturday, 61-40, in the opening game of a season delayed by the football playoffs.

“For our first game, I thought we did some good things, and I felt like we made some mistakes that are expected this early in the season,” coach Ryder Peacock said. “As a team, I thought we played well on the defensive end, doing a good job of crashing the boards.”

Luke Ivy was named the defensive standout, along with London Fuentes and Cole Chapman on offense.

“Offensively, we forced a lot of things that gave them some easy offense,” the coach said. “We will be able to build on this, and use it to make adjustments we need.”
