The Albany Junior High Lady Cubs volleyball teams split their home matches last week against Bangs with the eighth grade team recording its first win of the season.

Both teams are now 1-2.

Because of the Labor Day holiday, last week’s matches were played Thursday, Sept. 8. The schedule was juggled again this week with matches at Coleman played Tuesday, Sept. 13 because of a schedule conflict for Coleman. Details will be reported next week.

Seventh Grade

Against Bangs, the seventh grade Lady Cubs lost 6-25, 13-25.

'These girls are slowly getting better about being aggressive,” coach Tate Thompson said. “When they are communicating and going after balls, it shows in their play.”

Eighth Grade

The eighth grade Lady Cubs notched their first win, beating Bangs 25-11, 25-9.

“The serves have gotten stronger, and the girls are getting more confident in their serves,” coach Elizabeth Martin said. “Also, they were communicating a lot as a team, which was different from the last few games. I think that made a difference in their overall game.”
