The Albany Junior High Lady Cubs played twice in five days because of the Columbus Day holiday with the eighth grade splitting, while the seventh grade lost twice.

The junior high will close out the schedule Monday, Oct. 24 at Ranger. The eighth grade will play at 5:00 p.m. The seventh grade will not play because Ranger does not have two junior high teams.

Eighth Grade

The eighth grade Lady Cubs rallied to win 20-25, 25-19, 18-16 at Bangs.

“The girls did a great job and worked together even though we were down a player,” coach Elizabeth Martin said.

At Coleman, the eighth graders lost 21-25, 17-25.

“The girls competed hard,” Martin said. “They have made some amazing improvements since the beginning of the season, and that was really apparent in this game.”

The eighth grade team is now 4-10.

Seventh Grade

On Thursday, Oct. 13, the seventh grade Lady Cubs started slowly in a 6-25, 15-25 loss at Bangs.

The team went three sets on Monday, Oct. 17, before falling  25-21, 19-25, 11-15 at Coleman.

“We played really well in the first set but just couldn’t be consistent in the second and third,” coach Tate Thompson said.  “These seventh graders are starting to learn how consistency can make or break us.”

The seventh grade team has a record of 3-11 going into their final game.
