8A Cubs win, 7A team splits games

The Cubs traveled to Stamford on Monday, winning two out of three games, and the 7A and 8A Cubs also played in the Olney tournament last Saturday.

Albany will be on the road again next Monday, traveling to Hawley for a full set of games starting at 5:30 p.m.

The eighth graders won both tournament games on Saturday, then beat Stamford 36-13 on Monday  for a clean sweep.

“Lanxton Viertel and Zane Waggoner both had good offensive games, and Bryson Herring, Cole Read, and Adam Hill played well on defense,” coach David Fairchild said.

Individual points scored were not available.

The eighth graders also beat Seymour 36-32 in the first tournament game.

“Both Adam and Zane had big offensive games, and Lute Wheeler, Cason Fairchild, and Lanxton played well on defense,” the coach said.

The Cubs edged out Archer City 31-29 in the second game. Individual scoring was not reported.

7-A Split at Tourney

The seventh grade A team lost to Seymour in the first round, 48-12, in Olney on Saturday. The team then rebounded for a 32-12 win over Graford.

Scoring totals for both games were Ashton Bailey 2, Dalton Richards 10, Branson Beal 19, Hagen Miller 4, Jace Little 2, and Landon Balliew 7.

The Cubs fell to Stamford on Monday, 35-8.

Scoring were Beal 6, Miller 1, and Richards 1.

“Our focus continues to be to do things correctly and work on execution, communication, hustle, and fundamentals,” coach Jimmy Fuentes said. “We want the effort to win to be there, but we want to win with all these aspects intact.”

The B team boys won in Stamford on Monday, 31-11. Scoring were Brayden Watson 12, Jace Little 8, Ty Richards 5, Austin Sanchez 4, and Kolt Koemel 2.
