Eight Albany seniors are among the more than 320 top athletes and cheerleaders of the area who make up the 2020 all-star class for Big Country Chevy Dealers Fellowship of Christian Athletes All-Star Festival, announced Sunday, Feb. 16 at Beltway Church South in Abilene.

Representing Albany High School on the gridiron will be Ben West and Blaine Kayga on the Blue football team and Tyler Beard playing for Red.

Alayna Koemel was named to the cheer squad for the football and volleyball games.

Taylor Scott will be on the North volleyball team.

Jaleigh Morales was selected to the North women’s basketball team, and Aubrey Moon is on the North softball team.

B.J. Morris will play for North baseball coaches David Fairchild of Albany and Shane Stewart of Snyder.

The football teams are designated by color, red and blue, because they are selected by an actual draft.

The players were introduced to the media on Sunday before attending orientation meetings with organizers and coaches.

Members of the teams were nominated by their head coaches for the all-star games, which feature 71 high schools from an approximate 100-mile radius of Abilene, spread across 37 counties.

All participants will be honored again at the All-Star Induction & Awards Banquet on Sunday, May 3 at 4:00 p.m., in the Abilene Civic Center.

The local athletes are in the process of raising funds for expenses associated with the all-star games. County residents can purchase an ad in the FCA program, or help sponsor a table at the festival.

The 2020 Big Country Chevy Dealers FCA All-Star Festival includes a golf tournament at Kingdom Course at Solid Rock Camp in Eastland on Sunday, June 7, baseball and softball at Angelo State University in San Angelo on Friday, June 12, ladies’ and men’s basketball at the Coliseum in Brownwood on Saturday, June 13, and both volleyball at Wylie High School gym and football at Shot-well Stadium on Saturday, June 13 in Abilene.
