The seventh grade Lady Cubs won their bracket at the Woodson Tournament on Saturday, while the boys B team split games in tournament play.

All of the junior high teams were in action on Monday, with the girls playing in Haskell and the boys hosting three games. Results were not available at press time due to an early deadline.

Albany will take the court again next Monday, Nov. 26 with the girls playing in Cross Plains and the boys hosting the Buffaloes. Games will start at 5:30 p.m. at both locations.

Then on Dec. 3, the girls will be at home against Stamford, with the boys on the road against the same opponent.

Game Details

The seventh grade girls handily defeated both Woodson and Moran at the tournament for the trophy.

Albany beat Woodson in the first round 36-7 and Moran in the second game 34-6.

“The girls did a great job running our offense for the first time against a zone defense,” coach Lauren Peacock said. “I was very proud of their patience and hard work. Everyone played good defense, and we had opportunities for some easy lay-ups.”

Scoring for Albany against Woodson were Robin Lucas 11, Jaci Chapman 2, Maci Hachett 3, Ashlyn Holson 10, Kiana Roberson 6, and Braylyn Abbate 4.

Scoring during the Moran game were Lucas 4, Chapman 4, Holson 4, Roberson 14, Braylyn Abbate 2, Brooklyn Abbate 2, Robyn Trail 2, and Kaedyn Nowell 2.

The boys B team split games in the tourney.

The Cubs beat Woodson 27-12 in the first game.

“This was great start to the season for us,” coach Ryder Peacock said. “With little practice time, the guys did well playing solid defense and getting some good looks on offense. Tyler Waddell and Andrew Leverton did a good job of leading the offense, while Cole Read and Tyler did well on defense with several steals and rebounds.”

Scoring for the Cubs were Waddell 10, Tyler Chapman 2, Leverton 10, and Read 5.

Albany lost the second game, 34-27, to Moran.

“We did very well early in the game, but unfortunately, we ran out of gas late in the third quarter,” the coach said.

The game was tied at 26-26 after four quarters, but Moran scored seven points to the Cubs’ one point in overtime.

“To lose in overtime was tough, but the guys never quit,” Peacock said. “I was very proud of their effort throughout the tournament.”
