6th grade girls win youth division

Albany’s sixth grade girls team won its bracket of the Big Country Youth Basketball Association postseason tournament, played Saturday, Feb. 3 at Eula.

The Albany girls defeated Eula 18-11 in the firstgameandbeatHawley 19-14 in the final.

“I’m really proud of these girls on how much they improved this year and how they learned to compete,” coach Tate Thompson said. “Hawley beat us the first time we played them, then we beat them twice after that, including the championship. These girls worked really hard and played together to find some success.”

Against Eula, Karter Thompsonscored10points with Burkley Yeates adding eight. Yeates was the high scorer against Hawley with eight points. Thompson scored seven, withArtie Bell and Presley Rosales each scoring two.

Fifth Grade Girls

Albany’s fifth grade girls team was hampered by injury and illness as it lost to Eula Maroon and Eula White by identical 15-10 scores.

Against Eula Maroon, Romie Hinshaw scored four points, with Addisyn Peacock, Laramie Oliver, and Madison Swert each scoring two.

Against Eula White, Hinshaw again scored four points, with Harper Hargett, Peacock, and Oliver scoring two apiece.

Boys

Results for fifth and sixth grade boys were not available at press time.

Fifth grade boys coach Lacey Anderson said her team lost both games in last week’s tournament by around 15 points.
