Local elementary aged youth have the chance next week to participate in what will probably be the only youth camp held this summer.

Two local coaches are hosting an All-Sports Outdoor Camp for both boys and girls starting Monday, June 22 and continuing through June 24.

The camp will be split between two age groups, with students entering grades K-3 meeting at 9:00 a.m. until 10:20 a.m. each day. Students entering grades 4-9 will meet at 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon.

Due to guidelines established by UIL that govern use of school facilities, only outdoor camps are allowed due to concerns about the coronavirus.

“We will have the kids divided into groups and rotating through various stations,” organizer Ryder Peacock said. “There will be activities that work on passing, catching, hand-to-eye coordination, and more.”

The coach said since indoor facilities such as the gym can not be used, the curriculum is geared toward teaching skills that are beneficial to multiple sports.

The cost of the three-day event is $35, or $15 per day. Also, family with two students attending will be discounted to $60 for all three days, or $85 for three students.

Registration forms are available at Brookshire’s and Prairie Star, or from coaches David Fairchild or Ryder Peacock.

For information, contact Peacock at 325-762-0253 or Fairchild at 325-721-5232.

As of Monday, 50 participants had registered for the younger group and 22 for the older group.

Anyone who signed up on Facebook also needs to complete a registration form and turn it in on Monday along with the payment.
