2018 football schedule revised

The Albany Lions football district schedule was reshuffled recently after Roby ISD announced in June that it doesn’t have enough players to field a varsity team in the fall.

The schedule originally set for members of District 7-2A Div. II after the biennial re-alignment in February had to be scrapped after Roby’s announcement.

District coaches met recently to draw again for the district portion of the schedule, with Albany’s open date moving from the last week of the regular season to the first week of district on Oct. 5. A second open date caused by Roby dropping out of the schedule fell the last week in September.

“That would have given us two open weeks in the middle of our schedule and we really didn’t want to go three weeks between games,” head coach Denney Faith said. “It is really hard to find a game to fill in with at this point, but we will be playing the Brook Hill School on Sept. 29.”

Brook Hill is a private school located in Bullard, Texas just south of Tyler, with a high school enrollment of about 175.

The Lions will travel to Bullard for the game.

“We scheduled a Saturday game at 2:00 p.m. so we wouldn’t have to miss a day of school,” Faith said. “We were just happy to be able to find a game against a competitive program.”

Brook Hill won the state championship for their division of TAPPS in 2011.

The 2018 season will open with the Lions hosting a scrimmage against Coleman on Friday, Aug. 17.

Homecoming has been set for Friday, Oct. 12 during the district opener against Baird.
