The team of Justin Noble, Tyler Driskill, Josh Robinette, and Jeff Wilkerson won the Albany Kiwanis Charity Golf Tournament last Friday with a score of 57 strokes.

The 11th annual John Rose and Jim Law Memorial Tournament was held at the Albany Golf Club on Friday, Sept. 14.

“It was perfect golf weather,” said coordinator Steve Waller. “We had a big crowd and a good lunch! Fifteen teams competed in the tournament for the first, second, and third prizes.”

Second place, only one stroke behind the winners with 58, was the team of Charles Barrett, James Waters, Rodney Barton, and Akisha Waters.

A score of 60 earned third place for Wade Montgomery, Les Bowman, Griffin Hess, and Chris Hall’s team.

“After the top teams, prize-winning teams are chosen at random,” said Kiwanis member Brent Clegg. “That gives everyone a chance to win something.”

The team that won the first random drawing was made up of Austin Sherwood, Bruce Sherwood, Grant Zeller, and Bill Hill.

Kyle Bryan, Tommy Tierney, Charles Holson, and Brooker Polk’s team also won a random drawing.

The final team winning a prize in the drawing was that of Paul Hamilton, Bruce Singleton, Spencer Newsom, and Brian Hamilton.

Winners were noted in several individual categories including longest drive, closest to the hole, closest to the line, and closest to the marker.

Hole #9 was the site of the “Longest Drive” competition, and it was won by Wade Montgomery.

“Closest to the Pin” competitions were held at three holes. The winner at Hole #5 was Spencer Newsom. Austin Sherwood was closest at Hole #6, and the nearest ball at Hole #8 was teed off by Kory Ware.

The winner of the Hole #4 “Closest to the Line” competition was Justin Noble.

There were three holes with a “Closest to the Fairway Marker” contest. Tommy Tierney won the challenge on Hole #2, Les Bowman took the honors on Hole #3, and Jeran Hopkins earned the award on Hole #7.

The $100 individual random drawing was won by Charles Barrett.

The golf tourney and fajita meal is one of the fundraisers sponsored by the local Kiwanis Club.

The Albany Kiwanis Scholarship Fund sponsors students at all levels in academic and athletic activities, as the Kiwanis work to develop future generations of leaders.

“It was a good day, and a very successful fundraiser,” said Waller. “We will use the money to help support local youth.”
