10 seniors picked for FCA all-stars

Albany will have 10 graduating senior san done coach participating in the 2024 Big Country FCAAll-Star Festival this summer.

The festival, scheduled for June 5-15, features more than 350 of the area’s top student-athletes competing in six sports in three cities.

“We’re changing a little bit this year,” Danita Johnston of Big Country FCA said. “We’ve always gone North-South for all the games except for football. This year we’re doing Red versus Blue for everything except softball and baseball.”

Johnston said the move allows organizers to better distribute talent among the teams.

“It helps balance out big-school versus smallschool issues that we have geographically,” she said. “That’s why we did it in football a long time ago. We startedtodothesamething witheverythingelseexcept for baseball and softball, which wanted to stick with North and South.”

The 11th annual FCA All-Star softball and baseball games are scheduled for Friday, June 7, at San Angelo. Albany’s Braylyn Abbate will play for the North team in the softball game. Tyler Chapman, Cason Fairchild and Zane Waggoner were named to the North baseball team.

On Saturday, June 8, the 16th annual FCA All-Star women’s basketball gameand12thannualFCA All-Star men’s basketball game will be played in Brownwood. Albany’s Kiana Roberson was named to the Blue women’s team.

On Saturday, June 15, the 12th annual FCA All-Star volleyball match and 25th annual Myrle Greathouse All-Star Football Classic will be played in Abilene.

Albany’s Robin Lucas was selected for the Blue volleyball team, while Brooklyn Abbate will play for the Red team. Albany volleyball coach M.J. Reneau will serve on the Red coaching staff.

Lanxton Viertel and Adam Hill were picked for the Red football team.

The cheer squad for the Abilene events will include Albany’s Robyn Trail.

A meeting for all participants and their parents was held Sunday, Feb. 4, in Abilene.
