The Albany School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) are individuals working together to improve the health of students and families in the school district through coordinated health programs, and according to school nurse Lisa Russell, the organization welcomes more volunteers.

“We are always looking for new members, and we only meet four times per year,” said Russell. “We accept monetary donations to help purchase snacks for testing days at the AJSH campus and for splash/field day at the elementary.”

Several AISD staff members are currently competing in a fitness challenge.

Teams of three staff members started counting their steps on April 8 and are turning the count in every day until the challenge ends on April 22.

“The team with the highest total steps will be announced on April 23 and will receive $150,” said Russell. “The purpose of the challenge is to encourage others to increase their level of fitness, and most importantly, have fun!”
