Shackelford County commissioners will take a look at recycling a ramp that was once located on the north side of the Courthouse after discussing the need for a handicapped ramp at the justice of the peace office.

The regular meeting was held on Tuesday morning, Oct. 15 instead of the usual second Monday schedule because of the Columbus Day holiday.

Handicap Ramp

There was no action taken on the ramp issue because commissioners plan to check and measure the old metal ramp to see if it will work in the new location. The ramp has been stored at the Precinct 2 yard.

They also discussed the possibility of purchasing a portable ramp that could be put into place when needed.

The item was tabled so elected officials can check into the various options.

Other Business

•The commissioners voted to replace the main control panel for the Courthouse’s heating and cooling system, installed in 2000, because of ongoing problems. The cost will be about $9,850.

•Lanham Martin and Robert Skelton were nominated to continue serving on the Shackelford County Appraisal District’s board of directors.

•The county-wide burn ban was extended another 90 days, unless special action is taken in the interim.

•A lease agreement between Yellowhouse and Precinct 1 for a motor grader was approved.

•On county treasurer Tammy Brown’s recommendation, a resolution passed to continue an Indigent Defense Grant Program with the Texas Indigent Defense Commission.
