Words about the Word - Doug Stenberg - Trinity Covenant
Love the Lord with all your heart! Jesus tells us in John 13:34, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.” Jesus also tells us in John 15:13, “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.”
Jesus and His love always forgives, and is patient, thoughtful, never gets angry and is kind even to one’s enemies. That is why Jesus laid His life down for you and me!
When it comes to the Christian marriage, you are called to love each other, serve one another, but never try to change one another. That is God’s work!
Being irritated, or angry, or unforgiving are choices you make when you are focused on YOU. Jesus says put others first. Love them as Jesus has taught you the God kind of love, especially your husband or wife.
My mother-in-law, who is Spirit-filled and loves Jesus, was praying for her husband one day for some changes she felt he needed to make, and the Lord Jesus spoke to her and said, “If you will move 2 inches, I will move your husband a yard.” She knew what Jesus wanted her to change in her life.
Remember Jesus told us to remove the log out of our eye first. You changing you to be more like Jesus is the key to a happy marriage!
If you find yourself irritated or put out or your feelings got hurt, you need to ask the Lord, “What do I need to change?”
You be the first one to change and let the Lord take care of your spouse.
You be the first one to forgive. How often? Jesus tells us to forgive every time.
You be the first one to go the second mile, and the third, fourth, fifth!
You be the first one to love, always.
You be the first one to put your mate before your wants and even your needs.
Honor, give value to each other and to everyone. Appreciate them, don’t depreciate them.
Rejoice in the Lord, always. Be anxious for nothing. Give God thanks in and for all things. Dwell on truth and what is right in Jesus and what is pure and worthy of praises. (Philippians 4)
Practice, live by, these things and Jesus will impart His peace and joy to you!
Have a blessed Thanksgiving!
